A single-herb liquid extract of dried root of Astragalus membranaceus, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Astragalus belongs to the largest genus of flowering plants on earth — over three thousand species — and this one is a perennial legume of the dry grassland and open woodland of northern China, Mongolia and Korea, with pinnate leaves of many small leaflets and pale yellow pea flowers. What is traded is the root, which grows long and straight and is sliced lengthwise into pale flexible strips like tongue depressors, yellow at the core. That colour is half the Chinese name: huang qi, the yellow leader. A root is not lifted before its fourth autumn, and the best are older than that.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Not for use by anyone taking immunosuppressants or who has had an organ transplant. Speak to a practitioner first if you have an autoimmune condition.
